Multiple Myeloma Cell Simulation Using an Agent-Based Framework Coupled with a Continuous Fluid Model

Bone marrow mechanical conditions play a key role in multiple myeloma cancer. The complex and chemical conditions, as well the interactions with other resident cells, hinder development of effective treatments. Agent-based computational models, capable defining specific for every single cell, can be useful tool to identify tumor microenvironment. In this sense, we have developed novel hybrid 3D agent-based model coupled fluid particle dynamics study cells’ growth. model, which considers cell–cell interactions, cell maturation, proliferation, has been implemented by employing user-defined functions commercial software Fluent. To validate calibrate sedimentation velocity proliferation rates compared vitro results, another previously in-house model. results show that increased cell–cell, cell–extracellular matrix increased, result reduction n maturation time. Cells contact form aggregates, increasing thus proliferation. Saturation was observed when aggregates size lack space inhibited internal Compared previous huge costs obtained, allowing an increase number simulated cells.
